Product Description
A Half-Millimetre of Steel That Decides Facade Flatness
A curtain wall panel sits 3mm out of plane. The eye can’t always see it, but the checked reflection will. The fix isn’t a bigger bolt or a stronger bracket — it’s a small piece of precision-cut steel slipped behind the bracket: a shim.
Shims are the fine-tuning tools of structural installation. They compensate for concrete unevenness, steel fabrication tolerances, and accumulated alignment errors that no other component can correct. A well-stocked shim kit turns a frustrated installation crew into one that dials in facade geometry in minutes.
Fabao Machinery supplies custom shims and spacers in carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, cut to your exact dimensions, slot geometry, and thickness requirements. From single-leaf 0.5mm fine-adjustment shims to 20mm solid bearing plates, every piece is deburred, flat-checked, and ready to install.
The Four Jobs a Shim Performs on Site
| Job | What Happens Without It | What Happens With It |
|---|---|---|
| Level | Bracket tilts; transom slopes; glass edge loads unevenly | A shim under the bracket corrects the angle |
| Align | Adjacent panels shift out of plane; reflection lines break | Shims behind brackets push panels into flush alignment |
| Fill | Gap between embed plate and bracket creates bolt bending stress | Solid fill shim transfers load evenly across the full contact area |
| Fine-Tune | Final 1–3mm adjustment requires grinding or re-drilling | Peel a layer from a laminated shim — precise, tool-free |
Shim Type Selection — Match the Shape to the Problem
| Shim Type | Best For | Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Flat Rectangular | General bracket alignment, embed gap fill | Most common; cost-effective in bulk |
| Horseshoe / Slotted | Slide behind an already-placed bolt | Installs without removing fasteners |
| Peelable Laminated | Final fine-tuning on assembled joints | 0.05mm layer precision; no measuring |
| Wedge / Tapered | Correcting angular misalignment | Gradual thickness across the plate |
| Custom Contour | Irregular bracket shapes, curved surfaces | Laser-cut to your exact outline |
Material & Surface Selection
| Material | Thickness Range | Best Environment | Surface |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q235B Carbon Steel | 0.5mm – 20mm | General construction, interior | HDG 50μm+ / Electro |
| Pre-Galvanized Steel | 0.5mm – 3mm | Dry interior, electrical cabinets | Mill finish |
| Stainless Steel 304 | 0.3mm – 10mm | Exposed architectural, humid | Passivated |
| Stainless Steel 316 | 0.5mm – 10mm | Coastal, marine, chemical | Passivated |
| Aluminum 6061 | 1mm – 6mm | Contact with aluminum frames | Anodized or bare |
Applications
-
Curtain Wall Bracket Alignment – Horseshoe shims slide behind bracket bolts to correct vertical and horizontal alignment without dismantling the connection.
-
Embed Plate Gap Filling – Flat shims fill the void between a cast embed plate and the bolted bracket, eliminating bending stress on bolts.
-
Transom-to-Mullion Fine Adjustment – Thin stainless shims correct micro-misalignment at transom ends before final bolt torque.
-
Steel Column Base Plate Grouting – Stacked shim packs level column base plates before non-shrink grout placement.
-
Machinery & Equipment Leveling – Precision wedge shims and solid spacers align motors, pumps, and conveyor frames on steel skids.
Peelable Laminated Shims — The 12-Second Adjustment
When a joint needs 1.8mm — not 2.0mm, not 1.5mm — peelable shims deliver. Each laminated shim pack consists of multiple 0.05mm or 0.1mm layers bonded together. The installer peels layers until the exact thickness remains, inserts the shim, and tightens. No measurement, no trial-and-error, no rework.
Available in packs from 0.5mm to 6mm total thickness. Custom layer combinations on request.
